Sound and Lighting!
As I said in previous pages, setting up and operating the sound and lighting for anything is very enjoyable and I am always looking for work in this kind of business.
Recently I was the sound engineer for our local college as they had organised a talent show. I used all my own equipment
and had to organise the acts so that they knew
what they were doing on stage and made sure they could all hear themselves back from the stage monitors. I had set up a wireless communication between my dad, uncle and I so that I could talk to them from the back of the hall. This worked brilliantly. While I was working on the sound desk from the back of the hall I could get my dad and uncle to get the next act ready
and any props that were needed. It was a great night and everyone had a great time.
I also provided the lighting for the show.
I also was the sound engineer for a three piece band, consisting of 2 keyboards, 2 guitars and 3 mics. Again I was positioned near the back of the hall to make sure I got a great sound.I used my own sound equipment again and got an excellent sound for the band. The band were extremely happy, and it saved them a lot of trouble. All went well and it was a great night.
Previous to all that I was the lighting engineer in my dad's band. I travelled around scotland and north england every weekend with them and set up and opperated all the lights for them. This was very enjoyable. I done this for about 3 or 4 years.
I also done work experience at our local radio station (South West Sound) for a week, which was also very enjoyable. During this time at the radio station i went on air and reported the weather, done reception duties, worked in the second studio recording and editing jingles.
I also currently volunteer my services at our local theatre "The Theatre Royal". I help out by being a sound engineer and have worked on the sound for the pantomine and also for a play which lasted around one week. I am currently working with a director to be the sound engineer of a new play to be shown at the theatre royal, and will be sound engineer for the new pantomine starting in late november, early december 2010.
